When it comes to diet and exercise we all know that we North Americans are great at all or nothing. We either hog out and park ourselves down in front of a screen, or we starve ourselves to death and work out 5 hours a day so that we can fit into the mold culture tells us we need to fit into to be worthy.
But in Christ we find our worth, not in the world. We must be careful that in our attempt to get healthy and eat right we do not exchange one chain with another. Yes we may eat healthy and exercise, we may slim down and feel great, we may be complimented, even admired, but we must be careful that we have not left gluttony and self-indulgence only to exchange them for vanity, and the fear of man. We must make sure that our motives for eating and exercise line up with God’s view of things.
As the Lord says in Romans 12:2 “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect”
Let us ask the Lord today to renew our minds as we think about His Word. Let us request of Him discernment, so that we may be well-equipped in not only this battle, but in the many battles we do and will face in this mortal life.
